Leah's Thoughts

Well I am almost totally packed, except my laptop, which we are leaving setup till Saturday morning in case my parents need to use the internet. Up until now, I was really excited about moving to our new house, but now it is getting a little sad. I grew up mostly in this house, and there are a lot of good memories here, and some I am glad to leave behind. Overall I am still excited about the move, but it does bring up a lot of memories. For as long as I can remember, we have always had our Christmas celebration here on the 24th of December for my mom's side of the family. We all grew up in this house. It is strange now to think that there is another generation after us, we are no longer the little ones of the family. Growing up, and moving on is sometimes hard, but it is for the best, we can't stay kids forever. Listen to me... I am still living at home, and I am giving my car a Marvin the Martian theme. Ok, so we can't grow up too fast or we might miss the important steps in our life, but we also shouldn't try to move too slowly.

Well with all this said. I won't be posting on here for probably a week or so, since I don't know when we will be getting the internet in the new house. Just a little preview of what I have to look forward to in the next week. Saturday is the big move, so there's that, and patching up the holes in the walls of my brother's and my rooms. Then hopefully Sunday or Monday I will be priming the two rooms. Right now one is half green and the other is half blue. Thanksgiving weekend, I will be painting the rooms, which means I don't get to move into my room till after that... just in time to get my wisdom teeth out. As long as I have my beds set up in my room by then, I don't care about the rest of my stuff (ok, maybe my computer as well).

If you want to see pictures, here is an album of pictures my dad took with his digital camera.
New House

I almost own a car
At 4:30pm today, I completed step #3 for getting my new car. Here are the
steps that I have to do to get this car in my name. I believe that everyone
has to do most of these steps, but I guess this can be sort of a learning
experience for everyone that doesn't have their first car yet.

1. The first thing we got done is have the car saftyed and emission tested
(since it had been over a year since the last emissions test). We also got
the oil changed, but that was not required.
2. When you buy a car, you have to pay taxes on it. Well, if you are giving
the car to a family member, then you don't have to pay these taxes. So the
second step was to go to the lawyers to get some paper signed saying my
parents really were giving me the car.
3. Tonight I am going to see my insurance broker to setup my insurance on
the car, which will become effective tomorrow.
4. On Monday, my mom is heading to the car place to switch the car into my
name, and to renew my plates for me. :) Apparently I don't have to be
there for this step, which is good, because I have already taken a lot of
time off of work already.

Jobs stuff
I went to the career fair yesterday at Rim Park in Waterloo. I had everything ready, resumes and tailored cover letters. Overall I think it went pretty well. A lot of the companies I went to see were looking for Q.A. people, and were quite excited with my resume. I have to follow up with about 5 companies in the next week or so, I hope I have internet by then. The only problem is, is that two of the companies I am really interested in are in Toronto. As much as I don't want to work in Toronto, I don't think I have much of a choice at this time. Well we will just have to wait and see what happens, I might not even get an interview at these companies.

My new car...
We are officially on the way to me getting my "first" car. I know this is really my second car, but this one is a much better car. I am also getting this car for much better reasons than the last one, and it will last me a while longer so I will be able to make it my own. We went to the lawyers today to get some paper signed to say that my parents were actually giving me the car.

I was trying to decide whether I was going to decorate my car with a theme or not. I know it is a really girly thing to do, but I don't care. For a while I was thinking of going with the Princess theme, since it has been a part of me for a while now, but I am really starting to grow out of it. I am still a Princess at hart, but the whole world doesn't need to know that.

While I was going through my stuff, to get rid of anything that I didn't want anymore before we moved, I found the greatest box ever. It was all of my Marvin the Martian stuff. I had been wondering where all of that had gone. I went through it, and got rid of a few items that I felt I didn't need as part of my collection, which wasn't much. While going through it, I found this really cool sticker that I considered I would place on my car, just to add a piece of myself to it. Today I was giving it some thought, and I think I am going to go with the Marvin the Martian theme. I have such a huge collection of things, that I can put some of them in my car. It will go perfect with the collection of Marvin key chains I have too. It will be hard to figure out which one I want to use though. I can put my necklace around the rear view mirror or one of my many small hanging Marvin's. All I need now are the mats and the steering wheel cover, and a place to stick my sticker. I am still a little hesitant to put a sticker on my car, because it will be really hard to remove it if/when I don't want it on there anymore. Plus it might get damaged from the weather. Maybe I will use tape, and just tape it in the window, or even use double sided tape, so it won't be so obvious. (Can you tell I am bored at work?)

I have now found some of my Marvin stuff I use to have in my bedroom while I lived in Waterloo. My stuffed Marvin will have to find a new home in my car!! I Think I need a pillow like the one on Friends. I also found my hanging Marvin, not too sure where to put him, because he doesn't really stay up that well, and I can't have him falling on me while I drive. I wonder if they make CD holders with Marvin on them. Another thing I would like to use in my car is my address book, well not for addresses, maybe for some phone numbers, but my mom said that I should keep a book in my car of all the things that I get done to my car (for example the oil change). If I could find plain paper that would fit in it and maybe a matching pen, that would be cool!!

Yeah, this is really going to work. I do still have a few Marvin things that I will have to leave in my bed room, like my lamp, but that's ok because my car really isn't that big. My mom has also said that I can decorate my bathroom in the new house however I want. Well I have a Marvin hand towel that is blue and yellow, the colours that I want, I can use that as a theme for my bathroom, but not get too much extra stuff, just use what I have now. Maybe I can put my hanging Marvin on my mirror. Hmm, maybe

So on Thursday, my parents got an offer on the house. The have been trying to sell it for a couple of months now, and were getting a little worried that they wouldn't sell it before we moved on Oct. 1st. This is really all I knew over the weekend, because my parents didn't find out what the offer was for till the middle of the day on Friday. I didn't end up seeing my dad at work that day, because he was in meetings all day. So when I got home today, I got the good news that the house has been sold, conditionally. The funny thing is, is that the two things the real estate agents wanted my parents to change in the house, the buyer fell in love with. Mainly the kitchen, which isn't eat in, and the front hall. So we can finally start packing to move. Yes this gives us 6 days to pack up the house, but I'm sure we can do this! I am so excited to move, mainly because all of the stuff that has been in the office for the past two months, my computer included, I will finally be able to use them again!!

As for my wisdom tooth, it is starting to move again, I think. Man that causes a lot of pain, since it is already up against my other molar it just pushes in it. Oh well only 2.5 weeks till it comes out, and I will feel a lot better.

Things really do happen for a reason
I have finally realized why I have yet to find a job, other than I am not
really looking at the moment. If I was working anywhere else but
Labtronics, my employers wouldn't be too happy with me taking all this time
off. I would have had to take a day off in April for surgery. I am taking
a day off for a job fair (which I really wouldn't have to do if I had
another job), and now I have to take another day off to get my wisdom tooth

My Wisdom teeth...
Ok, make that tooth. I just got to work from my oral surgeon's appointment, and it turns out that I only have one wisdom tooth. I am really glad, but it does have to come out. I have decided to get general anesthetic, because I am a big wimp and don't think I can be awake for it. The only problem is that it is going to cost a lot more this way. Oh well, good thing I have been saving my money up.

So I go in Oct. 14, 2004 at 9:30am. It's a Thursday, and they told me that I should be ok to go into work the next day. I will just have to be careful, and make sure I don't end up with a low grade fever like I did when I had the lymph node removed.

I'm not too worried about this surgery, since it is my second in six months, and the first one went well. I don't really think that too much can go wrong here either.

Another amazing weekend...
One of J.'s cousin's was getting married this weekend, so we headed up to J.'s parents house for the whole weekend. Saturday I got up around 10:30am to start getting ready, because we had to be in Port Dover by 2pm. I just made it. I don't know why it takes me so long to get ready, I mean there isn't that much to do. I laughed, cause it took me all morning to get ready, and I think it to J. maybe 15 min. to get ready.

I met J.'s grandparent's when we got to the church, they are really nice. We had some time before the wedding started, so we walked around Port Dover for a bit. I bought a really cute necklace and bracklet with heats on them. It was a nice ceremy, everyone looked so nice!! After we took some pictures at the church, we headed to J.'s uncle's farm for more pictures. I got to meet some more of J.'s family there. Around 5pm, we headed to the hall for dinner and the reception.

Overall it was a great time, and it was nice to meet J.'s family. They were so welcoming to me, it was great!! It also helped that I had met his cousin Clare before the wedding, she actually lived in the apartment above me the first year I lived on Columbia. Talk about a small world.

How to mess up a database in 4 simple steps
My mom has asked me to fix up the customer database at work, because it was
never made properly and therefore won't convert to Office 2000. Here are
just some of the problems with the database...

1. The tables are not related. This is just dumb, what is a database for if
you don't link the data in it.
2. Since the tables are not related there are extra macros to
add/edit/delete the information in the database.
3. Creating Macros to create tables that are needed din reports. Yes, that
is confusing. About 1/2 of the Queries that are created use a "Companies"
table, which is created by a macro. grr
4. One thing that I have learned how to do is add code to my buttons,
instead of making really long (several pages) macros, I use about two lines
to do the same thing.

ok, that's all I have for now...

Why people should stop assuming I know stuff
Today I had to reprint about 50 pieces of paper, because I had done the
release documents incorrectly for Nexxis 1.1.2. It's not my fault, noone
ever told me how to do it, so I had no idea I was doing it wrong. I like
Lillian, she actually made me correct everything that was wrong, so I will
know how to do it for next time.

What a sweetheart...
So tonight I come home from a long and frustrating day at work, all ready to hit the gym, when I notice a pair of shoes at the front door that look really familiar. J. had come over to cook my family dinner. Isn't that so wonderful??

It makes me feel so loved

It's been a while...
Well it has been a while since I have written in my blog, as you can see, but I haven't really had much to talk about or really the need to write. We are moving to our new house in about 2.5 weeks, and we haven't started packing really anything. It is really hard to pack when you have no where to put any of it, as we have yet to sell this house. Anyone wanna buy a house in Guelph?? This past weekend, my mom and I picked out the new bed sets for the double beds that are going to be placed in my room. Yes my room is going to have two double beds plus all of my junk. Yeah right!!

I am working on a very important project at work right now. Basically I have to make sure that numbers in the European numbering system are being handled correctly. It really sucks, because I am finding out that they numbers in the English system aren't being handled correctly either. I am testing this for our second largerst customer, so there is huge pressure to get it done correctly in a minimal amount of time.

I am also working on the customer database. I will write more about that when I am done my list, or done the database, which ever comes first.

So J. and I have now passed the 11 months mark. Nothing really more to say about that.

We went to see Fahrenheit 9/11 tonight. It is a good movie, but quite scary. Anyone who has seen this movie knows exactly what I am talking about.

I guess that's really all that's new in my life... everyone is back at school, I will have to make a trip to Waterloo soon to see them.

My friend Gwen called me tonight. She is doing great at University. I am so glad that she is so happy, she will be just fine, I am not worried at all. Miss ya!!

I have also not been placing my stars on here, so here is how I am feeling right now:
Angelic for some strange reason

Fantastic weekend...
This weekend was one of the best weekends I have had this past year!! I headed up to J.'s parent's house with him for the long weekend. It was great to spend the weekend with him, even though we do spend most weekends together. :) We decided to head up late on Friday, as I had no place to park my car at his place in Waterloo. Saturday we got up and decided to go shopping. We went to Ikea, and I got a stool, in black, for my piano, a mini chest of drawers for my jewelry, and a cute star shaped ice cube tray. After we headed to Hamilon to go shopping at Old Navy. I got a new pair of jeans, a new t-shirt, and a new workout outfit for the gym. It is a yoga tank top, and J. says it will feel better to work out in, than the t-shirt I have been wearing.

We stopped at this little fish and chip place for dinner. It was a complete suprise, it was so sweet. After dinner we walked down to the mini put that was down the street. I actually got two hole-in-ones, but J. still beat me. We finished the night off with some ice cream, and then headed home.

Sunday night, we stayed in and watched two really good movies. We watched Fight Club and Momento. If you like movies that are a little different, with lots of twists in them, I recomend them both.
